Dragons of Summer Tide
Over a thousand times the tides of summer had passed – a thousand years since dragons had been known in the Kingdom of Hwandor. Elves and dwarves also had both passed into legend. And very few believed that any of the ancient tales were true or even could be true. There had assuredly never been dragons in the skies, or elves in the mountain forests and dwarves in their deep halls under The Elder Mountains – The Dragon Mountains. There were those from time to time who claimed to have caught a glimpse of a dragon but everyone knew that was as ridiculous as believing in real mages.
Then a young man from the folk who live on the edge of the Kingdom in the hills at the feet of the ancient mountain finds that legends are coming to life. In a day he sees his first dragon, finds his home and family destroyed, sets out on a journey and is attacked by a dragon. Then he is bonded by another dragon and he finds that wondrous gifts are bestowed on him.
In his journey he befriends other orphans and he is being followed by orphaned baby dragons and they begin to bond his new friends to save their lives. Each dragon bestows a special skill, magic, tracking, warrior, leader and more. Soon each orphan has a special skill. As their journey continues, their opponents mount and the odds of success seem to dwindle. And then new allies step out of legend……

This book is very well done and the author was very talented at spinning the taleIt was however a pity that no one hit spell check before submitting for publication. Especially near the end of the book it became irritating.
Now off to find the sequel, I want to find out if the gay young king hooks up with Veer

Dragons of Summer Tide The Dragons of Hwandor Book 1 eBook Robert Barton Reviews
this book was slow going at first but soon developed into a really great story, until it ended right at a really critical part. I realize that the author intends on this being a series to sell more books but he could've at least let us know what happened to the king and the last unbonded. I like to think this works itself out in the first chapter of the next book but who knows since he did not include a teaser for the next book as a good author would've especially if he ends the book so abruptly.
This is the first review I've ever felt compelled to leave, after downloading (AND READING) hundreds of e-books. The storyline and details of the book are probably worth four stars, but the horrific lack of editing gave me a headache. Bad grammar, misspelled words ("of" used when it should be "off") and misused words (too instead of to) made this book a very difficult read.
Purchased for my early teen grandson but I soon became engrossed when I was reviewing it . The story keeps your interest from the very start and has many twists and turns. The characters are good and it is interesting to watch them develop as the storyline continues. However the ending was abrupt and does not leave you in a good place. If the sequel is not soon available, you may need to read it again to refresh your memory before reading the sequel.
I normally do not like stories about dragons because they make dragons too much of a separate entity from the main characters. In this story humans and dragons join to meet the perils of their adventure. It is well written and clearly reveals the characters' emotional and social interactions without interfering with the story and action. Well coordinated story by the author. Highly recommended for young and older adults who love adventure and intrigue!
Well, this was a very good read, even with all the grammatical errors and typos as mentioned in other posts. There is even a "3" in the middle of a word near the end instead of an "e" (if I remember correctly). It's an excellent first try at Fantasy. I want to read more of the story and see the quality improve.
The story moves along at a good pace and you get to know the characters well. Yes, the ending leaves you hanging, but a lot of trilogies and series do that.
The main frustration is that there is no info, that I could find, on when the next book is expected. The author does not seem to have a website.
A really excellent story. Hard to put down. A lot of bad grammar in the beginning, and a lot of Spell-Check malapropisms. (A Spell-Check Malapropism happens when an author misspells or makes a typo, but the error creates another word with an entirely different world. One example is when the author leaves the "k" out of the word, "reckon" [ to think or calculate] and creates the word "recon"[scout or reconnoiter].) I get the impression that this is a first book, because the grammar and spelling gets better as the story progresses. Don't let that stop you from reading because this is a d---n good tale. P.S. Watch out for the cliffhanger at the end.
Really fun story. It's hard to find modern fantasy that has a fresh take on old tropes, but this one manages to include some unique ideas into the blend of time-tested plots. I really enjoyed how original the dragons were and both the unusual way that they bonded with a person as well as the way that bond effected them. The larger story, beyond just the re-discovery of the dragons, was also interesting and I liked that the author included a variety of characters with unexpected viewpoints, including alternative sexualities. All in all a very original take on what could easily have just a rehash of old ideas. I'll definitely be looking out for the next book in this series.
